Elizabeth groeide op met een stevig hoofdbestanddeel van sprookjes, mythen en liedjes. Haar passie voor verhalen vertellen begon rond de leeftijd van 10, toen ze fanfics begon te schrijven voor Sailor Moon, Sweet Valley en Star Wars, en deze online plaatste om te ontdekken: “Wauw, mensen lezen mijn dingen echt. En dat is best cool!” Maar nadat een van haar leraren haar had verteld dat ze “te veel stem” had in haar essays, nam Elizabeth een pauze van creatief schrijven om zich te concentreren op het niet laten zakken van Engels.
In de loop der jaren werd Elizabeth een film- en videogamecomponist en ging ze zelfs zo ver dat ze een doctoraat in muziekcompositie behaalde. Maar ze miste het schrijven altijd en ze begon verhalen op te schrijven als ze even op adem moest komen van de middelbare school.
